[Reporter Yang Mianjie/Taipei Report] Under the influence of the declining number of children, the operation of private schools has been severely challenged, and the most direct impact is financial problems, which is also one of the important reference indicators for private schools to withdraw from the market. According to the latest announcement of 110 years of available funds for each school , all national universities showed positive numbers, but private schools including Gaoyuan University of Science and Technology, Mingdao University, Global University of Science and Technology, Zhongzhou University of Science and Technology, and Taiwan Institute of Theological Studies showed negative numbers.

The information disclosure platform for university affairs has updated the latest data today. In terms of available funds for schools, national universities, with the financial support of the government, all showed positive figures. Among them, National Taiwan University’s available funds topped 7.453 billion yuan, and Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology’s 5.032 billion yuan. 100 million yuan, Taichung University of Science and Technology 3.616 billion yuan, Chengchi University 2.994 billion yuan, and Pingtung University 2.871 billion yuan.

As for private universities, there are also those with sufficient funds. Among them, Mingzhi University of Science and Technology topped the list with 8.175 billion yuan, Chang Gung University with 6.057 billion yuan, Yadong University of Science and Technology with 5.945 billion yuan, Tzu Chi University with 5.042 billion yuan, and Fu Jen Catholic University with 4.264 billion yuan.

However, there are also 5 private universities with negative numbers, including Taiwan Academy of Theology - 2.107 million, Universal University of Science and Technology - 8.621 million, Zhongzhou University of Science and Technology - 24.774 million, Gaoyuan University of Science and Technology - 59.828 million, and Mingdao University - 71.194 million.

The latter four schools have already been listed as specialized auxiliary schools by the Ministry of Education, and are required to improve their financial situation within the time limit.

He Mingguo, chairman of the Association for the Advancement of Private Universities and President of Datong University, believes that the available funds will only be more accurate if the financial information for this year is released next year. After the real impact of the declining birth rate, it will be reflected in next year’s financial report. So what I'm looking at now is the financial report before the big deficit appeared, which is just the tip of the iceberg.
