The government may make negative RT-PCR reports mandatory for passengers coming from China and five other places from next week.

Official sources gave this information on Wednesday.

He also cautioned that the next 40 days would be crucial as India could see a surge in Covid in January.

Sources in the health ministry said that even if there is a wave, the number of deaths and hospitalizations will be very low.

An official said, “In the past, it was found that a new wave of the pandemic hit India 30-35 days after East Asia was hit by Covid-19… It has been a trend.”

Sources said that for international passengers coming from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore, it may be made mandatory from next week to fill the 'air suvidha' form and undergo RT-PCR test 72 hours in advance.

Sources said that in the last two days, 6,000 international passengers who came to India were tested for Kovid-19, of which 39 reports have come 'positive'.

He told that Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit Delhi airport to take stock of the Kovid-19 testing facilities there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya have held meetings to take stock of the preparedness to deal with the spurt in Covid cases.

A 'mock drill' was conducted in hospitals across the country on Tuesday to take stock of the preparations to deal with any situation of rapid increase in the cases of Kovid-19.

At the same time, Mandaviya said that in view of increasing cases of Kovid in the world, the country is being cautious and is ready to deal with it.

There has been a recent increase in cases from BF.7, a subtype of corona virus called Omicron.

Official sources said that the rate of spread of BF.7 is very high and one infected person can infect 16 people.
