More than 500 houses have been damaged due to heavy hailstorm at many places in Dibrugarh district of Assam.

Officials gave this information on Tuesday.

Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Center has issued a warning that hailstorm accompanied by strong winds and lightning may occur at various places in Assam and other northeastern states during the next 24 hours.

A senior official of the Dibrugarh district administration told PTI that the damage caused by the disaster is still being assessed and no casualties have been reported.

The official said that there was hailstorm in Moran, Tingkhong, Naharkatia and other areas late Monday night and early Tuesday.

He told that this has caused huge damage in the district and according to the initial assessment in Moran subdivision, 310 houses in 37 villages have been damaged.

At the same time, 202 houses have been damaged in 21 villages of Tingkhong.

Another official said that in the neighboring Tinsukia district, there was hailstorm in the Khetojan tea garden on Tuesday morning, but no damage was reported.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that damage to several houses was reported under Moran and Tingkhong revenue circles due to the heavy hailstorm.

He tweeted, 'Officials have been instructed to make a detailed assessment of the damage.

The government is providing all possible help to all the affected people.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati said in a bulletin that light snowfall is 'likely' at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over the rest of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The Regional Meteorological Center has issued a 'yellow alert' for the entire Northeast region, saying that there may be hail and lightning at various places in the seven states of the Northeast.
