The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published a statement calling on UN countries to resume the application of the UN Charter in the issue of the legitimacy of the Russian Federation's presence in the UN.

This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the illegitimacy of the Russian Federation's presence in the UN Security Council and the United Nations as a whole.

"Ukraine calls on the UN member states to resume the application of the UN Charter in the issue of the legitimacy of the Russian Federation's presence in the UN, to deprive the Russian Federation of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and to exclude it from the UN as a whole," the statement reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that Ukraine is initiating a complex process aimed at achieving the goals of this statement, and in this context is ready to cooperate with other countries to jointly protect the UN Charter and international law from the destructive influence of the Russian Federation.

"Russia falsely considers the issue settled, referring to the fact that since December 24, 1991, and in the public sphere - since December 31, 1991, a plaque with its name appeared in the UN Security Council. In fact, according to the UN Charter, there was no and there are still no legitimate grounds," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

We will remind that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr

Zelensky, insists on the creation of an international special tribunal

to hold the Russian leadership accountable until the end of the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.

The US Congress passed a resolution

to expel Russia from the UN Security Council the day before

.

Russia has the right to impose a veto on such a proposal and, as practice proves, has already used this on several occasions.
