A member of the District Court in Haskovo ordered a measure of remand "in custody" against a man accused of murdering his four-year-old stepson, the Courthouse in the regional center announced, BTA reported.

A report of the crime was received by a team at "Emergency Services" in the regional center at 3:15 a.m. on December 24.

The tragedy took place on "Yatak" street in the Roma quarter "Republika", where the same night the stepfather Gendzebai Mehmed (47 years old) beat the woman with whom he lives on a family basis, as well as her son born from a previous relationship.

If convicted, Mehmed faces a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years to life in prison or life in prison without parole.

The accused G.M.

has a burdensome judicial past and a large number of investigation actions are underway, during which the presence and participation of the accused in the upcoming trial should be guaranteed, the court explained.

The measure can be appealed or protested at the Court of Appeal in Plovdiv.
