[Reporter Yu Zhaofu/Report from Keelung] There is an egg shortage in the world. Chen Jizhong, chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Executive Yuan, said this afternoon (26th) that the previous soaring egg prices in China were caused by the increase in feed prices. Recently, egg prices have stabilized.

However, the recent outbreak of bird flu has intensified. The Council of Agriculture will do its best to prevent bird flu and ensure that the needs of the people of the country can be fully supplied before the Chinese New Year.

Chen Jizhong said that the price of eggs has risen because of the increase in egg production costs. Recently, the egg supply has been sufficient, and the price of eggs has dropped from 42.5 yuan per catty to 40.5 yuan. Two hundred eggs are supplied to consumers all over the country. Now the price of eggs in the European Union and the United States has risen sharply due to bird flu; Taiwan will do its best to prevent bird flu so that consumers can enjoy eggs.

Chen Jizhong said that the national bird flu epidemic prevention meeting was held this morning, and the implementation will be in place, so that this year's people's livelihood necessities can be fully supplied.

Chen Jizhong said that as of yesterday (25th) this year, the number of poultry culled by bird flu was only 100,000, which accounted for only 0.09% of the more than 100 million birds raised, which is very low, unlike the culling of 700 birds in Japan. There are tens of thousands of poultry, and South Korea has culled tens of thousands of 2.7 million. The impact of bird flu on our duck farming can be said to be minimal, so we will supply sufficient duck meat to consumers.

Chen Jizhong said that due to the cold weather recently, the demand for ginger ducks has increased. Please rest assured that the duck farmers who raise ducks will fully supply duck meat.

Chairman of the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan Chen Jizhong went to the Fisheries Research Institute this afternoon to listen to the staff of the Water Research Institute explain the restoration of fishery resources.
