The Ukrainian government seeks to organize a peace summit by the end of February, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as the eventual mediator, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said today in an interview with the Associated Press, BTA reported.

However, he stressed that Russia could only be invited to such a summit if it was first brought before a war crimes tribunal.

Earlier today, Kuleba called for Russia to be stripped of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and expelled from the world organization altogether.

In his interview with the AP, the Ukrainian foreign minister said that Kyiv would like the summit in question to take place by the end of February.

"The UN could provide the best place to hold this summit, because it's not about favoring a certain country. It's really about bringing everyone in," Kuleba specified.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also commented on the possible role of Guterres.

"He has proven himself as an efficient mediator, an effective negotiator and most importantly - as a principled and honest person. So we will welcome his active participation," explained Kuleba.

However, he once again belittled the statements of the Russian authorities that they were ready for negotiations.

"They regularly say they are ready for negotiations, which is not true, because everything they do on the battlefield proves just the opposite," noted Kuleba.
