Military pilots of Tu-96 and Tu-160 strategic missile carriers may have died during the explosions at the military airfield in Engels, Russia, this night.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Yuriy Ignat, on the air of a nationwide telethon.

"The Russians write about three dead and four more hospitalized. But there are also some reports where they write about the dead, including military pilots. If we are talking about the pilots of the Tu-96 and Tu-160 strategic missile carriers, then this is important information for us, which should be taken into account," he said.

Ignat does not yet undertake to comment on how much equipment could have been destroyed or damaged at the airfield as a result of the "cotton", because it is necessary to wait for satellite images.

"Cotton" at the airport in Engels

It will be recalled that on the night of December 26, explosions rang out at the Russian airfield in the city of Engels, where strategic bombers are based, for the second time this month.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it was allegedly a drone.

As a result of the fall of its debris, three Russian soldiers died.

According to military expert Serhii Grabskyi, these explosions indicate that Russia is losing its strike potential.

Military expert Oleg Zhdanov, commenting on this incident, noted that Russian air defense is actually "paper".
