The US embassy in Islamabad on Sunday barred its staff from visiting the capital's Marriott Hotel, citing concerns of a possible attack.

This instruction was given due to the security alert issued by the US government.

The US Embassy asked its employees to be vigilant at places of worship and avoid crowded places.

The Dawn newspaper reported that a policeman was killed and six others were injured in a suicide attack in the capital two days ago.

In its security alert, the US embassy said it was aware of information that unidentified individuals may be plotting to attack Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad during the holidays.

"Effective immediately, the Embassy in Islamabad is prohibiting all US personnel from visiting the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad," the alert said.

As Islamabad was put on red alert citing security concerns while imposing the ban.

On Friday, the administration in the capital banned all kinds of gatherings, especially activities related to the upcoming local body elections, and declared a high alert in the city.

It said, "In light of the recent advisories/threat alerts issued by law enforcement agencies and today's attack on the police, the security of Islamabad has been beefed up to mitigate threats within the jurisdiction of the capital. damage may occur"

The report states that the police have banned all kinds of street gatherings, public gatherings and gatherings, especially in view of the upcoming local government elections.

The Pakistani publication said the order came into force immediately and would remain in force for two weeks.
