At the time of the first Russian invasion and annexation of Crimea in 2014, the Ukrainian state did not yet have a clear plan for joining NATO, so this cannot be the reason for the current full-scale war.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, spoke about this on the air of the national telethon.

He reminded that in 2014 there was no talk of Ukraine's membership in NATO, then only some models were discussed regarding a possible collective security agreement, to which our state could become a member.

"It didn't matter at all for the invasion of Russia.

Russia is driven only by hatred, the desire to dominate the region and the desire to destroy and bring to its knees the Ukrainian people, who have always looked skeptically towards Russia," Podolyak said.

The adviser to the head of the OP noted that in the early 90s, the Ukrainian authorities looked eagerly at Moscow and thus created hopes of readiness to kneel.

He called Putin's godfather and pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk an illustrative person, who created the illusion of cowardice in our country.

"Ukraine today is a completely different country.

Russia now understands this very well.

Against this background, any statements about reconciliation look at least strange, and they no longer have any meaning.

Let them talk, and we must finish the main thing - calmly reach the right end of the war, ensure the formation of a new security framework, in particular, Europe, update the understanding of what modern NATO is and return Russia to where it should be as backward, impoverished and technologically underdeveloped as possible country," Podolyak emphasized.

According to him, the Russian Federation should not influence global politics, not be part of the G20, not be a permanent member of the UN Security Council, not dominate the IAEA and other international organizations.

It will be recalled that the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said that the United States and Ukraine "led the Kremlin by the nose" by promising peace agreements.
