The firm position of the West is that peace in Ukraine can be established in only one way - the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territories.

This was stated by publicist and political scientist Andrii Piontkovsky in an interview with UNIAN, answering the question whether the USA really wants Ukraine to go only to the borders on February 24, and Crimea and Donbas to leave the Russian Federation.

"There are official documents of the G8. The meetings on October 14 and December 12 ended with the adoption of statements demanding the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire occupied territory. There is no February 24. There was a very revealing press conference of Macron and Biden, where they both were not very willing, but were forced to repeat this formula. It was said: "Peace in Ukraine can be established only in one way - by the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territory.

Today, Putin is not ready for this, so we have no grounds for negotiations with them.

When he agrees to this, we will enter into negotiations with him." This is the firm position of the West," he said.

Commenting on the recent speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in the US Congress, Piontkovsky emphasized that Ukraine today performs the functions of NATO, and the West understands this.

"The Western world finally understood what was happening. Even such a burned-out bureaucrat Stoltenberg said, responding to accusations about too much financial aid to Ukraine: "We pay with money, and Ukrainians - with blood.

And if they do not stand up, then we will have to pay this high price." Finally, the West understood this, and it was reflected in Zelensky's meeting in Congress," the political scientist concluded.

It will be recalled that on December 22, Zelensky visited Washington, where he met with Biden and also spoke in the US Congress.

Summing up his visit, the Ukrainian leader said that he and the delegation "go with good results" for the country.

It should be noted that Biden ordered to allocate $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, which will include, in particular, the Patriot air defense system.

Evaluating the results of Zelenskyi's trip, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, emphasized that the United States had determined that Russia must lose.
