In his Christmas message to the nation today, Charles III, 74, thanked everyone for the "love and condolences" expressed after the Queen's death.

Charles III then referred to the impact of Britain's growing economic woes, as decades-high inflation hit incomes and strikes in the public and private sectors demanding higher wages intensified.

In a pre-recorded Christmas message, Charles III said: "I would especially like to pay tribute to all the wonderful people who have generously given food, donations or time to support those most in need around them."

"Our churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and Sikh temples are united once again to feed the hungry and provide love and support year-round."

He also mentioned: "This kind of solidarity from the heart is the most inspiring expression of loving your neighbor as yourself." 1111226
