For 20 years, the "Library of Freedom" series saw the light of nine dozen publications about Belarusian politics, language, history, society, journalism, prison, health and much more.

We continue to introduce you to our publishing output.

By the way, every book is available in digital format.

Eighth letter to those who can read.

the country of "how"

Instructions, textbooks, useful tips and other educational and pedagogical literature are outside the scope of the "Freedom Library" - but it's worth looking at.

In the book "Prison and Health", for example, Professor Yury Bandazhevsky gave specific advice and even pictures of exercises that should be done to stay healthy in captivity.

The edition "Life after cancer" talked about the methods and practices that allow you to lead a full life after a serious illness.

Not to mention the interview and opinions of experts about many topics and problems and recipes for solving them.

But today's shelf is special - here you can get advice on how to speak Belarusian beautifully, how to burn, how to write letters to Freedom - and also how to put all your 20th century in one book of words.

"How?

Alphabet of behavior"

    The Alphabet of Behavior (.pdf)

Since the subtitle of this book was missing on the cover, some people thought that it was about the planes of the same name, and others - that it was about mountain bulls.

But both of them were not disappointed when they opened the book.

The author Siarhei Dubovets

collected models of modern ethics from "A" to "Z"

in an encyclopedia of behavior: how to defend yourself and how to vote, how to forgive and how to love, how to be friends and how to cheat.

And even how to burn.

Does not only the world around us change with the ages, but also our own ideas about the "eternal", about wealth and poverty, heroism and propriety, and finally - about good and evil?

Open and visit.

    Part 2 (Soundcloud)

It seems that this is the only case in Belarus when the book cover became a monument.

On the grave of the author of "Living Language"

Yuras Bushlyakov

at the Northern Cemetery in Minsk, there is a large granite book that repeats his book, published in the "Library of Freedom".

Yuras Bushlyakov worked on it until the last days, but he did not have time to see it himself.

This is a collection of short practical essays on how to speak and write Belarusian correctly and beautifully.

In the course of his editorial work at Radio Svaboda, the author identified difficult, controversial or erroneous moments in the living language, analyzed them and gave advice, which formed the cycle of radio programs and became the basis of this book.

You can set sail on the ocean of language alone, but it is better with a reliable and experienced pilot.

Living practice and beauty, which are based on a scientific linguistic foundation, are combined with economical ease of teaching and subtle philological taste of the author, whose name is deservedly listed as part of the title - from the subject of authorship turned into the subject of language, became a part of it.

Or objects - only Vintsuk Vyachorka

himself knows for sure

, and you can ask him on interactive platforms dedicated to the language: Only about language (Facebook), Only about language (Telegram).

"Don't make my prepositions laugh"

  • Don't Make My Prepositions Laugh (.pdf)

Anyone who knows the origin of this name, after reading the book, will understand that it is not a paraphrase of the threat of one mad dictator, but an answer to him.

Our prepositions are stronger than your "Iskanders".

Vintsuk Vyachorka

wittily and expertly tells how to protect your own, to speak accurately and beautifully at home, in the store, at a meeting, on the road, at exams, so that the native language lives everywhere.

And this is the first book of the "Library" made on the basis of video broadcasts - even Franziska Skaryna would be impressed.

"Dictionary of Freedom: 20th century in the Belarusian language"

  • Dictionary of Freedom (.pdf)

A word for the day for memory and for reflection - this is how we set the task for the authors, who during the year 2000 were daily looking for answers to the question "how".

How to choose an accurate, unexpected, vivid word that would reflect life in the last century.

The result is an encyclopedia that can be read as you want, from any place, in any order, as you like - a truly free answer to the question "how".

"Letters about Freedom"

How to listen to Freedom?

And here's how: "...listening to you is like drinking a glass of vodka after taking a bath: it's light, fun, and joyful," writes a listener from Belarus.

Short waves knew no borders, and that's why Svaboda always had listeners in Ukraine: "... I'm Ukrainian, but thanks to the Belarusian Svaboda, I learned the Belarusian language by listening to you.

I really like your shows, they are extremely interesting.

Even more interesting than the World Cup.

That's why I listened to you every day, both in the evening and in the morning, even during the world football championship."

Both the signature and the address are Ihar Zemlany, Dnipropetrovs'ka region... Radio program "Mailbox 111" was hosted by

Valentin Zhdanko

, who selected a few hundred votes from harsh critics and die-hard fans for this collection from thousands of letters.

But for us, they were first of all listeners, and therefore their word is also the word of Freedom.

"Letters to Freedom"

  • Letters to Freedom (.pdf)

The title is similar to the previous book, but the content is completely different: how do we live, how to live?

Listeners speak about power and opposition, about love and betrayal, about war and literature, about local authorities and church holidays - a full palette of modern Belarusian life appeared.

Valyantyn Zhdanko

commented on the letters and answered questions, but in the book they sound on their own and thus form a unique reader's choir.
