The spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, said that Ukraine will use the new Patriot air defense system for the Russian aviation, which fires missiles at our country.
He said this on December 23 on the telethon.
Ignat emphasized that the U.S. Armed Forces will definitely not shoot down Iranian drones from the American air defense system.
This system will repel Russian aviation.
"I think there is a possible application in the extreme, because today we have Iris-T and NASAMS, which also shot down the Shahed. I mean, even though the Shahed has a striking part that is not as big as the missile, if it gets into an important object, it will lead to greater losses than if we lose the missile," Ignat said.
Transfer of Patriot air defense system to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which included Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said that Ukraine had been trying to get the American Patriot air defense system for a long time.
According to the diplomat, the Patriot air defense system will help save Ukrainian lives and infrastructure.
The Armed Forces will need several months to prepare for the use of the Patriot
anti-aircraft missile systems
provided by the United States of America.
