The Aam Aadmi Party has announced the candidate for the post of Mayor of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD).

You have decided the name of Shelly Oberoi.

At the same time, the candidate for deputy mayor will be Aaley Mohammad Iqbal.

Apart from this, the members of the Standing Committee will be Amil Malik, Ravindra Kaur, Mohini Jinwal and Sarika Chaudhary. 

Recently, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena has approved the proposal to convene the first meeting of the Municipal Corporation on 6 January 2023.

After this, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had said that the elections for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and six members of the Standing Committee of the House would be held in the first meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on January 6.

NDTV had a special conversation with Shelly Oberoi, the mayoral candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday.

Shelly Oberoi said, 'Cleanliness will be our priority and we will make Delhi shine better.'

How will the mountains of garbage (landfill) be removed?

In response to this question, she says, 'It is too early to answer this question right now.

Right now, we will first make a blueprint as to how all the work will be done.

We haven't even been sworn in yet, but all the councilors have started the work of cleanliness in their respective wards.

How will you handle the opposition?

On this question, he said, 'Elections are over and now we all have to work together.'

She has also been the Delhi state vice-president of the women's wing of the Aam Aadmi Party.

This was his first election.

Shelly also thanked Arvind Kejriwal.

He said that Kejriwal ji showed faith in me and gave such a big responsibility.

The tenure will be till March 31.


Notification has been issued for the election of Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The last date for filing nominations is Tuesday 27 December 2022.

Nomination can be withdrawn anytime before the election.

The Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be elected through secret ballot.

The tenure of the Mayor in MCD is from 1st April to 31st March.

That's why the term of the first mayor will be only till 31st March.

The meeting of the House will be held at the Civic Centre, the headquarters of the MCD on Minto Road.

Let us inform that AAP had won 134 seats in the MCD elections held on December 4, 2022 and ended the 15-year rule of BJP.
