The military leadership of the Russian Federation presented to President Vladimir Putin plans to expand the Russian army by approximately 30% - up to 1.5 million people.

However, it is not known when this level will be reached.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain on Twitter.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu explained that the expansion will include at least two brigades in northwestern Russia, which will increase in size to a division.

He referred to the perceived threat from Finland and Sweden's accession to NATO.

According to British intelligence, it is one of the first glimpses of how Russia is seeking to adapt its forces to the long-term strategic challenges posed by its invasion of Ukraine.

At the same time, the British Ministry of Defense notes that it remains unclear how Russia will find recruits for such an increase, "when its forces are under unprecedented pressure in Ukraine."

We will remind, at the extended meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Wednesday, December 21, the president of the aggressor state,

Vladimir Putin, made several statements

related to the war in Ukraine and strengthening the military potential of the Russian army.

According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, at least 2 brigades in northwestern Russia are going to expand to the size of a division.

He referred to the perceived threat from the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.
