[Reporter Lu Yixuan/Taipei Report] Our country will set up a "Montreal Office" in Quebec, Canada.

According to people familiar with the matter, the process from the Montreal office to propose a proposal this year, discuss it with both sides, and confirm it in December was very smooth and fast, which also reflects the friendly attitude of the Canadian government towards Taiwan.

The size of the museum will be comparable to that of Vancouver and Toronto, and it will be an outhouse with about 8 to 9 people.

Although the location of the establishment has not yet been finalized, but 4 objects have been locked and will be decided as soon as possible.

Regarding the opening schedule of the Montreal embassy, Xu Youdian, director of the North American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained today that the Canadian representative office is working on the opening of the embassy, including looking for an office, and hopes to do so as soon as possible. It is expected that there will be very good progress in the first half of next year.

The Canadian government just released the "Indo-Pacific Strategy" in November, and Jim Nickel, Canada's representative to Taiwan, also held a public briefing on this.

Canada's strategy states that it will deploy more military assets in the Indo-Pacific region, and will also work with allies and partners to strengthen the naval presence in the region, including increasing the number of frigates deployed, and maintaining the right to freedom of navigation in the region.

Canada will also increase its participation in exercises in the Indo-Pacific region and cooperate to strengthen the regional defense architecture.

The strategic report also pointed out that Canada will continue to expand economic and civil ties with Taiwan, support Taiwan's resilience, and will continue to engage with Taiwan in many aspects, including cooperation in trade, technology, health, democratic governance, and combating disinformation.

Canada will also work with its partners to oppose any unilateral actions that threaten the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

As for Montreal, which will be newly established by my country, it is the largest city in Quebec and the second largest city in Canada.

Quebec is a place where the French-speaking population is concentrated, and its population accounts for nearly 1/4 of the total population of Canada.

Montreal is also a well-known technology industry cluster. The two sides have great potential for cooperation in the fields of electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. The United States, Japan, Britain and France have established bases in many countries, and it is also the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

People familiar with the matter also said that Taiwan’s long-term efforts to participate in the ICAO have failed. The opening of the Montreal museum this time will strengthen its connection with the local network, and it is also expected to increase our focus on promoting ICAO participation.
