French President Emmanuel Macron considers it unlikely that Ukraine will join NATO as an option for security guarantees for it.

Le Figaro writes about this with reference to Macron's words to the French media

Macron said that Ukraine needs to be given security guarantees in the process of deciding to end the war.

However, according to the French leader, Russia allegedly also needs such guarantees.

"With this Russia, it is difficult to imagine... But whether Ukraine joins NATO (which is not the most likely scenario) or not, it needs to be given security guarantees. More than that, it has been attacked by Russia," Macron said.

The French president is convinced that the Kremlin will consider Ukraine's accession to NATO as a confrontation under any circumstances.

"In the end, everyone will have to sit down at the negotiating table... And I don't want only China and Turkey to negotiate in the future," Macron added, likely referring to Erdogan's mediation efforts.

It will be recalled that earlier Macron explained why he spoke about "security guarantees" for the Russian Federation.

He asked, "not to make an elephant out of a fly and not to look for contradictions where there are none."

According to him, at the peace talks there will be territorial topics regarding Ukraine and collective security in the entire region.

However, after that, European countries sent an official démarche to France regarding the country's President Macron's statements regarding "security guarantees for Russia."
