A group of scientists from the Tokyo National Center for Global Health and Medicine found that

coffee

carries a hidden threat for people with blood pressure over 180/100 mm Hg.

Studies show that people with this blood pressure are twice as likely to die from heart disease if they drink two or more cups of coffee during the day.

The Daily Mail writes about it.

According to study author Dr. Hiroyasu Iso, he and his colleagues focused on determining whether the protective effect of coffee extended to people with varying degrees of hypertension, as well as the effect of green tea on the same group of people.

The researchers note that their study is the first to find an association between two or more cups of coffee per day and mortality from cardiovascular disease in people with severe hypertension.

About 20,000 people took part in the study - more than 12,000 women and slightly more than 6,500 men living in Japan between 1990 and 2009.

During the study, participants answered questions every year about their eating habits, including the amount of coffee they drank per day.

The recipients also reported on their state of health and diseases that they had been diagnosed with in one or another period of time.

Scientists say that coffee consumption was not associated with mortality from cardiovascular diseases in all groups except the second and third categories.

At the same time, the connection between the consumption of green tea and mortality from cardiovascular diseases was not found at all.

In addition, the scientists found that for the third category of recipients, drinking two or more cups of coffee per day increased the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases twice during the study period.

At the same time, such risks were not found in people who drank only one cup of coffee per day.

Earlier it became known that

researchers from McMaster University in Canada were able to identify proteins that are affected by caffeine and thanks to this, they help the liver to remove bad cholesterol from the bloodstream.

As a result, the process protects a person from the appearance of cardiovascular diseases.
