Why freezing feet is dangerous for health

Cold feet are not only unpleasant "aches" that appear immediately after you return home from the cold.

Freezing also entails other troubles:

  • numbness of the limbs, a feeling of discomfort, which is accompanied by pain when walking;

  • the appearance of pain in the joints;

  • development of cold diseases of respiratory organs;

  • diseases of the genitourinary system.

In particular, in the winter season, cold feet can lead to the development of

cystitis

— an unpleasant and quite serious disease.

Why can feet in shoes get cold

Even if you have purchased quality winter shoes, this does not mean that your feet will not freeze outside.

The main reasons for such trouble are:

  • wearing narrow and uncomfortable shoes - tight shoes or boots do not allow the foot to move, and also squeeze it, due to which the movement of blood through the foot slows down and the feet freeze faster;

  • the use of tight elastic socks - they can also squeeze the blood vessels, which leads to poor blood supply;

  • the shoes have thin soles - the cold penetrates the fastest through the feet;

  • vegetative-vascular diseases, low blood pressure - blood does not flow well to thin vessels, and therefore the extremities always remain cold.

How to insulate your shoes and keep your feet warm

There are six ways to help you cope with the problem of cold feet and avoid hypothermia:

  • Shoes should have fur and thick soles - it is advisable to choose winter shoes so that in case of severe frosts you can still put on a warm woolen sock and the foot will not be cramped (one size larger than you usually buy).

    The cold will penetrate less to the skin if there is a layer of cotton and air.

  • Insoles made of cotton or fur - instead of regular insoles, use options made of warmer materials that will help retain heat longer.

    They can also be replaced with several layers of newsprint (this method is simple and budget-friendly).

  • Use heat reflectors - buy a foil heat reflector at any hardware store and use it to create homemade insoles.

    As a sample, you can take an insole from a shoe, circle it with a marker and cut it out with scissors.

    Do not forget to make several holes in it with a diameter of no more than 5 mm.

    So your legs will not come.

  • Dry mustard - although this is not a very practical method, but in a last resort it can help you.

    Dry mustard is poured into socks.

    Another pair is put on the bare foot, and on top - a pair with mustard inside.

  • Using a pepper plaster - stick it on a thin cotton sock, put it on the leg, and on top of it another, but already warm, sock.

  • Forget about smoking outside - resins and nicotine, which are part of cigarettes, narrow the walls of blood vessels and thereby disrupt blood supply to the extremities.

  • Ways to warm your feet are quite simple and you can use them every day to avoid hypothermia.
