Xi Jinping told Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev that his country would like to see negotiations regarding Ukraine.

The head of the People's Republic of China said this after their meeting in Beijing, writes Bloomberg with reference to the state broadcaster China Central Television.

Xi Jinping told Medvedev that his administration is "actively promoting peace and negotiations."

"China hopes that the relevant parties can remain rational and restrained, conduct comprehensive negotiations and solve mutual security problems through political methods," he said, adding that Beijing still wants to cooperate with Russia to develop joint ties.

As Bloomberg notes, China avoids criticizing Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Beijing signed a communique at the G20 summit in Indonesia in November that said "the majority of members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine," but China continues to refrain from calling it a war.

Medvedev's visit to China

It will be recalled that the day before, on December 20, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during a telephone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping,

asked him to use his influence on Vladimir Putin

to end the war in Ukraine.

Today, December 21,

Medvedev met with Xi Jinping in Beijing

.

The parties discussed bilateral interactions of the strategic partnership between the countries in all spheres, as well as international issues, including the war in Ukraine.

According to the propaganda media of the Russian Federation, Medvedev allegedly also delivered a "message" from Putin to the Chinese leader in Beijing.

However, the propagandists do not say what exactly it is about.
