The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Serhiy Shoigu announced the intention to strengthen the Russian army in the north-western direction due to the "building up of the military potential of NATO" near the borders of Russia.

He made such a statement during a meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

"Given NATO's desire to increase its military potential near the borders of Russia, it is necessary to take measures to create a grouping of troops in the north-west of the country," he said.

The necessity of this step was explained by the head of the military department of the aggressor country by the fact that the North Atlantic Alliance is expanding at the expense of Finland and Sweden.

Serhiy Shoigu also announced the need to create two strategic territorial units in the armed forces of the Russian Federation - the Moscow and Leningrad military districts.

It will be recalled that the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Serhiy Shoigu, believes that it is necessary to increase the number of the Russian army to 1.5 million people.
