Pope Francisc

Francis (Latin: Franciscus PP.), until his election Jorge Mario Bergoglio - Roman Pope from March 13, today called on people to remember the Ukrainian children who are out in the cold this Christmas, Reuters reported.

"Let us think of the many children in Ukraine who are suffering so much because of the war," he said at the end of his weekly general audience at the Vatican.

Since Russia attacked its neighbor in February, the pope has invoked Ukraine in almost every public address, usually twice a week.

"Most of those I saw cannot smile," he said of the Ukrainian children who found shelter in Rome with the help of Italian families and charities.

“It's hard to see a child not able to smile.

These children carry with them the tragedy of this war, so inhumane and cruel.

Let us think of the people in Ukraine who this Christmas are without electricity, without heating, without the basic things they need to survive," the Pope stressed.

Since October, Russia has attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, damaging or destroying much of it.

The Pope: There is a need to humanize work

Last week, the Pope urged people to spend less money on Christmas parties and gifts this year and to send the savings to people in Ukraine to help them cope with hunger and cold this winter, BTA writes.

The Vatican also launched a campaign to send warm clothes to Ukraine.

Countries from and outside Europe are working to provide transformers, switches and cables, as well as diesel generators needed for lighting and heating.
