The Congress of the Republic of Peru has voted in the first reading to hold extraordinary presidential elections in April 2024.

APA informs that this was reported by TASS.

A total of 93 deputies supported it.

Thus, the country's Constitution will be amended to allow elections to be held after 18 days.

It is expected that the draft law will be adopted in the second reading at the next meeting.

On December 7, Peruvian President Pedro Castillo dismissed the parliament that was supposed to consider his impeachment for the third time.

After that, the president declared a state of emergency.

The parliamentarians still held a meeting and made a decision on the resignation of the head of the country.
