The Bank of England has unveiled the design of King Charles III banknotes

Charles III, full name Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor, is a king and statesman.

The King's portrait will appear on the existing designs of the four polymer notes (£5, £10, £20 and £50), with no other changes to the existing designs.

The king's image will appear on the front of the notes, as well as in a cameo in the transparent security window.

The new notes are expected to enter circulation by mid-2024. All polymer notes featuring a portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II remain legal tender and the public can continue to use them as usual, the bank said.

To minimize the environmental and financial impact of this change, new notes will only be printed to replace worn notes and to meet any general increase in demand for notes, the bank said.

“I am very proud that the bank is launching the design of our new banknotes, which will feature a portrait of King Charles III

Charles III, full name Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor, is a king and statesman.

This is an important moment as the King is only the second monarch to be depicted on our banknotes.

People will be able to use these new notes when they go into circulation in 2024," Bank Governor Andrew Bailey said.
