The war lasts 300 days, although both in Russia and in Belarus before the war, they repeatedly talked about the intention to capture Kyiv in three days.

Svoboda collected the main figures and facts of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Military losses of the parties

Officially, neither Russia nor Ukraine names the exact number of their losses in this war.

Both sides periodically publish information about other people's losses, which indicates a desire to seize the initiative in the psychological and informational war.

Russia asserts that 5,937 Russian soldiers died in Ukraine (according to data for September), but journalists at the beginning of December, based on open information, were able to confirm the death of more than 10,000 soldiers, including more than 400 mobilized since September.

According to Ukrainian information, more than 99,000 Russians were killed and wounded in the war.

Ukrainian officials claim the death of up to 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

Russia claims that more than 110,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and wounded.

The military staffs of the USA and Europe estimated the losses of Russia and Ukraine at parity - about 100,000 soldiers on each side.

The number of peaceful victims

The total number of dead civilians cannot be accurately determined, as quite a few settlements in Ukraine are still under Russian occupation.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, more than 20,000 people could have died as a result of intense Russian shelling in the city of Mariupali in the Donetsk region.

Law enforcement agencies of Ukraine were able to document the deaths of at least 450 children, and another 863 were injured.

Both international and Ukrainian experts believe that a more complete assessment of the number of civilians killed in Ukraine will be possible only after the complete end of hostilities, and the actual number of deaths may be many times higher.

Tens of thousands of war crimes

The number of civilians and military personnel who died after interrogations and torture by the Russian occupation authorities is being documented separately in Ukraine.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that they registered 54,898 thousand war crimes, as well as 18,438 crimes against the national security of Ukraine.

Among the suspects are Russian soldiers and Ukrainian citizens who cooperated with the occupation authorities.

Russia denies its involvement in the extermination of Ukrainians, and the first such facts discovered in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions were called a "fake".

The number of Belarusian volunteers who died and were captured

Most of the Belarusian volunteers who are fighting on the side of Ukraine after February 24 are fighters of the Kastus Kalinowski regiment, created on March 9, 2022 (initially as a battalion. — RS).

How many there are in total is not revealed.

According to various estimates, the regiment may include from 200 to 1,500 fighters.

As of December 10, it is known about 17 dead Belarusians who fought on the side of Ukraine - ten soldiers of the Kalinovsky Regiment, as well as seven from other units fighting as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, it is known about at least two people from Kalinin who were captured by the Russians near Lisichansk.

They have already been included in the exchange lists formed by the United Center for the Search and Release of Prisoners.

At least five natives of Belarus who died in the war on the side of Russia are also known.

Ukraine liberated Kyiv region, Kherson and Kharkiv region

Military experts believe that Russia failed to implement the initiative, Ukraine intercepted it.

"Firstly, we managed to contain the offensive, and secondly, we managed to repel enemy troops from a large number of directions - from Kyiv, Chernihiv, we managed to de-occupy Kharkiv region, Kherson region, and moreover, to stabilize and stop full-scale hostilities in the east.

Heavy fighting continues there, but the full-fledged occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions has not taken place," says the head of the Ukrainian Center for Military and Legal Research

, Oleksandr Musienko

.

At the same time, Russia still occupies a fairly large area of Ukraine.

Energy, hospitals and schools were destroyed

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has destroyed or damaged more than 2,800 educational institutions and more than 1,200 hospitals.

As a result of targeted shelling, almost all energy facilities in Ukraine were damaged, from high-voltage substations to power generation facilities.

Ukraine received record amounts of aid from the West

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has received more than 24 billion dollars in international aid.

The main donors are the European Union, Great Britain, the United States, Canada and Japan.

In 2023, the European Commission plans to send up to 18 billion euros of macro-financial support to Ukraine, and 37 billion dollars of emergency aid to the United States.

Forecasts for further military actions

On December 16, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine

Oleksiy Reznikov

, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

Dmytro Kuleba

and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army

Valery Zaluzhny

announced a possible repeated attack of Russia on Kyiv, including from Belarus.

At the same time, analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) are convinced that

Alexander Lukashenko

, at a meeting in Minsk on December 19, apparently rejected the efforts of Russian President

Vladimir Putin to

make further concessions in the context of the involvement of Belarus in the war against Ukraine.
