The Russian leadership has conflicting views on whether to launch an offensive against Ukraine in the winter, which has warned of a possible second attempt to capture Kyiv.

This was reported by AFP with reference to a high-ranking official from the USA.

"I think we're seeing contradictory things. There are certainly some (in the Russian Federation - ed.) who would like to continue the offensive in Ukraine. There are others who

have real doubts about Russia's ability to actually do it

," said an anonymous American official.

He also said that the US would "adapt and adapt quickly" if the nature of the Russian invasion of Ukraine changes.

"What we did - what we continue to do - is to make sure that Ukrainians have in their hands the means for effective protection against Russian aggression," the official explained.

He drew attention to the fact that, at the same time, the

Ukrainians "do not intend to slow down"

due to the winter weather in their desire to return the territories.

We will remind, as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhnyi warned, the Russian Federation is preparing about 200,000 new soldiers, who will definitely be sent into a new offensive against Ukraine either in the east, or from the south, or from Belarus.

It can happen in January, but most likely - in the spring.

Zaluzhny also announced plans of the occupiers to attack Kyiv again.

According to the estimates of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitry Kuleba, the Russian invaders may launch a major offensive at the end of January-February 2023.

Commenting on information about a new offensive by the Russian Federation, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is aware of such a possibility, but the question remains whether the occupiers are capable of it.
