The European Union's (EU) decision to send a new long-term mission to Armenia has once again damaged trust in the institution.

As it is known, according to the agreement reached in Prague between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, the European Union and France in October of this year, for the purpose of monitoring and analyzing the situation and presenting reports on the situation on the ground, on October 20, the Monitoring of the EU along the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan Mission (EUMCAP) deployed.

The mission was planned for 2 months and the period was completed on December 19.

However, it became clear from the statement of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, that the EU has decided to send a long-term mission to Armenia.

"The Council of the EU has agreed with the government of Armenia that an aid group from the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia will be sent to Armenia.

This group is intended for a transitional period and will prepare for a long-term mission, as well as inform the EU about the security situation in the region.

The transition planning assistance group is also expected to support the President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel, in the EU-mediated normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Borrell added.

This statement of Borrell is surprising as well as bitter regret.

As already mentioned, sending a short-term EU mission was agreed with the Azerbaijani side at the Prague meeting.

However, when deciding to send a long-term mission, Baku's opinion was not asked.

Perhaps because they knew from the beginning that Azerbaijan would object to the sending of this mission, they did not see the need for it.

But in all cases, this step of the EU does not fit into any diplomatic norms and ethics.

What happened shows that the EU has become a tool in the hands of pro-Armenian France.

There is no doubt that the "long-term mission" scenario was prepared by France.

Because France considered it as an opportunity to open its feet to the region and place its military contingent in this area.

Therefore, Azerbaijan did not allow the EU mission to come to its territory in October.

The mission operated as a border mission in Armenia and ended its activities on December 19.

The EU's decision to form a new mission and give it additional mandates is hypocritical and frivolous, contrary to the previously reached agreement.

The creation of a new mission undermines the atmosphere of trust, which is undoubtedly why Azerbaijan does not intend to cooperate with it in any form.

With this decision, the EU overshadowed the mediation mission of Charles Michel.

It is known that so far four meetings have been held between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the initiative and participation of Mr. Michel.

In those meetings, important decisions on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia were made.

However, the EU should have been aware that with this decision it could also affect this process.

Thus, since Azerbaijan's trust in the EU has been shaken, Charles' refusal of meeting initiatives may be on the agenda.

France is currently steering the EU as it wants.

The next proof of this was the points that emerged regarding the meeting scheduled to be held in Brussels on December 7 this year.

It should be noted that the next meeting of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel was supposed to be held in Brussels on December 7.

However, it became known later that Nikol Pashinyan announced that he could agree to that meeting only if French President Emmanuel Macron would attend it.

Azerbaijan, of course, rejected the holding of the meeting in this format.

Because Baku has repeatedly stated at different levels that it is impossible for France to participate in Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization and is principled and consistent in its policy.

It seems that France has resorted to using the "EU mission" card to maintain its presence in the South Caucasus region.

The new mission is the next game of France and other pro-Armenian forces in Europe.

This is a change of form in the context of the problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia and does not have any new content.

It appears from the statement of the EU that the additional function of the new mission is to study security issues in Armenia.

Such a setting of the issue also raises additional questions.

Until now, Armenia, which has been dependent on Russia in military and security matters, is already openly demonstrating that it wants to come under the umbrella of the EU and is trying to bring France to the region.

Some countries within the EU have opposed the creation of a new mission because they clearly see that these efforts of France serve the geopolitical interests of official Paris, not the provision of peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

The facts show that until now, no region including France has been freed from problems, on the contrary, conflicts have increased, countries have been devastated, and genocides have been carried out that ended the lives of millions of people.

It seems clear that Armenia, which was caught between Iran and Russia and has now become a target of France, is rapidly going towards Syrianization.

The current situation clearly explains why Azerbaijan does not come into contact with some forces in the EU and does not trust them.

The main countries that should be worried about the situation are Iran and Russia.

It is interesting to see what further steps Moscow is expecting to see its ally Armenia abandoning it.

As for Iran, hypocritical Tehran, which declares that the security of Armenia and the inviolability of its borders is a "red line" for it, why doesn't it shout loudly that Yerevan does not follow its "red lines"?
