The prosecutor's office brought two Turkish citizens as defendants for undeclared currency in the total amount of BGN 950,058, found in a bus and a truck at the "Capitan Andreevo" border checkpoint, the press center of the state prosecution reported.

The first case was on December 16, around 11:45 p.m., when a Turkish-registered bus, driven by H.Y., 41, arrived at the exit point from Bulgaria to Turkey. He traveled from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria .

During an inspection of the bedroom of the bus, in a factory cavity, and during a personal examination of H.Y., the customs officials found undeclared cash - 20 thousand euros, 148,420 British pounds and 8,240 Scottish pounds with the Bulgarian equivalent of about BGN 390,360 .

The next day, around 10:00 a.m., a truck with Turkish registration, driven by I.B. aged 66, arrived to leave Bulgaria for Turkey. He traveled from Norway to Turkey via Bulgaria.

During an inspection of the cargo trailer, in two of the beams strengthening the cargo, the customs officers found undeclared three million Norwegian kroner with the Bulgarian equivalent of about BGN 559,698.

The accused are detained for up to 72 hours.

The investigation of the two expedited proceedings continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office and will be completed within the legal time frame.

With these two new cases, the amount of illegally transferred currency discovered during inspections of "Captain Andreevo" since the beginning of the year is now close to BGN 24.5 million.

Euros and British pounds are the most frequently traded objects.

The Penal Code provides for up to five years in prison or a fine of one-fifth of the object of the crime, if proven.
