Elon Musk

Elon Reeve Musk (English: Elon Reeve Musk, /ˈiːlɒn ˈmʌsk/) is a Canadian-American engineer, inventor, asked Twitter users to decide whether he should remain at the helm of the social media platform after admitting he made a mistake yesterday with the introduction of new posting restrictions that prohibit the promotion of competing social media websites, the Associated Press reports.

In a drastic new policy change, Twitter announced that users will no longer be allowed to include usernames or links to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon and other platforms that the company has designated as "prohibited."

But the move sparked an immediate wave of criticism, even among former defenders of Twitter's new owner, so Musk ultimately vowed not to make major policy changes without an online poll of users.

Case in point is well-known venture capitalist Paul Graham, who has praised Musk in the past, but yesterday told his 1.5 million Twitter followers that this was the "last straw" and that they could find him at Mastodon.

His Twitter account was immediately suspended, then reinstated soon after, as Musk promised to reverse the policy put in place just hours earlier.

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who recently invested in social media platform Nostr, responded to the post about Twitter's new terms with one word: "Why?".

Musk reinstated journalists' Twitter accounts

"My apologies. It won't happen again," the billionaire tweeted, launching a new 12-hour poll asking if he should step down as head of Twitter.

"I will comply with the results of this poll," he added.

Banned platforms include popular sites such as Facebook and Instagram and newly emerged competitors such as Mastodon, Tribel, Nostr, Post and former US President Donald Trump's Truth Social

Donald Trump - American businessman and politician Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946 in New York.

Twitter said it would at least temporarily block accounts that include links to the social networks in question, as well as those that try to circumvent the ban by using a description like "instagram dot com" instead of a link, the company said.

The decision is another move by the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk

Elon Reeve Musk (English: Elon Reeve Musk, /ˈiːlɒn ˈmʌsk/) is a Canadian-American engineer, inventor, to restrict certain publications after last week blocking Twitter accounts of journalists who published details about his private jet.

It reinstated the accounts on Friday after criticism from government officials, advocacy groups and journalism organizations around the world on Friday, with some saying the microblogging platform threatened press freedom.

Musk's promise to let users decide his future role at Twitter based on a non-scientific online poll appeared out of the blue yesterday, even though he promised in November that a reorganization would be coming soon.

The poll is due to close at 11:20 GMT today, although the billionaire did not specify when he would step down if that was the wish of a majority of poll participants, Reuters noted.

Musk told a Delaware court last month that he would reduce his time on Twitter and look for a new head of the company.

He was asked how he divides his time between Tesla and his other companies, including SpaceX and Twitter.

In his words, he never wanted to be the CEO of Tesla or any of the other companies.
