An Italian court has decided to extradite to Germany a former officer of the German armed forces who was arrested in the operation against "Citizens of the Reich", a terrorist movement which is believed to have been preparing a plot against the government in Berlin, DPA reported.

The decision was taken by a court in Perugia, adds BTA, citing ANSA.

A European arrest warrant had been issued for the 64-year-old former German soldier.

On December 7, police arrested the former commando at a hotel in Ponte San Giovanni, not far from Perugia.

According to authorities, they had previously received information that the man was in Italy and had been monitoring him ever since.

At least 120 people knew about the coup plot in Germany

During the large-scale operation against the "Citizens of the Reich" movement, the German prosecutor's office arrested a total of 25 of its members, 22 of whom it accused of being members of a terrorist organization that wanted to overthrow the government, DPA recalls.
