DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal has summoned the action taken report in the matter by December 22.

New Delhi :

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in connection with child marriage and harassment of a 15-year-old Muslim girl.

The girl has filed a complaint before the commission in which she has told that she was married in February 2022 at the age of 15 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.

She told that she got pregnant and her in-laws tried to get an abortion but failed.

The girl has alleged that her husband and in-laws often beat her up.

She told that the husband also hit her with hot griddle, electric wire and screwdriver.

She has said that her husband threw her out of her in-laws house and after that she came to her parents' house in Delhi where she is currently living.

In this regard, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the Delhi Police.

The commission has sought details of arrests along with a copy of the FIR made in the case.

The commission has sought an action taken report in this matter by 22 December.

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “We have received a complaint of child marriage and ill-treatment of a 15-year-old girl.

Extreme cruelty has been done on the girl by her husband and in-laws.

I know that Muslim personal law allows marriage of girls above 15 years of age.

But I believe that it is ancient, medieval and barbaric and in such cases the law of the country i.e. POCSO should be applicable.

We have issued a notice to the Delhi Police.

An FIR should be registered in the matter and strict action should be taken against the accused persons.”
