Tomorrow, December 19, in the Orthodox calendar

, is the day of memory of St. Nicholas the Comforter or Miracle Worker

.

He was born in the III century in the Greek colony of Patare, which is located in Asia Minor.

Since childhood, he had a deep sense of God and followed the foundations of the Christian religion.

And that's why he decided to devote his life completely to serving the Lord even in his youth.

He spent whole days in the temple, and when he returned home in the evening, he prayed and read books.

Mykola's uncle was Bishop Mykola Patarskyi.

He was the first in the family to see the diligence of the young man and made him a reader.

Then he was even raised to the rank of priest.

Mykolay inherited a lot of wealth from his parents, but he gave it all to charity.

Later, Nicholas was made bishop of the city of Myra (now Turkey).

He zealously professed Christianity all his life.

He is also credited with the destruction of several pagan temples and the numerous miracles he performed with his prayers.

In ancient times, it was believed that St. Nicholas protects those who were falsely accused of crimes.

And our ancestors believed that he helps merchants, sailors and, of course, children.

Farmers prayed to the saint for a good harvest and good weather.

He was even called the second intercessor after God.

In the morning, people necessarily went to the church, prayed there to St. Nicholas, then all together set the festive tables, sang, ate and had fun.

And Nicholas the Wonderworker has long been bringing gifts to children, which he puts under the pillow.

There is a belief that only obedient children receive gifts, but the saint brings a knife to brawlers.
