The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has extended until February 10 the detention of Belarusian citizen

Yury Belavusov

, who has been serving under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since August and participated in the battles for the liberation of the southern territories of Ukraine from the Russians.

Yuri Belavusov is suspected of three serious crimes: illegal imprisonment and kidnapping (part 2 of article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), torture (part 2 of article 127) and threatening to kill (part 1 of article 129).

Belarus was detained on October 18 this year.

The reason was that he did not appear at the court session.

At the court session, lawyer Yuriy Belavusava stated that he could not voluntarily leave the territory of the military unit to come to the court hearing.

But the court did not consider these circumstances.

Another figure in this case is

Yuri Ionov,

a well- known fighter of the "Azov" battalion in 2014.

But he died this year while defending Mariupal.

At different times, Yuri Ionov was an activist of a number of public organizations created by another well-known Azov resident,

Siarhei Korotkih

: he was a citizen of Belarus before receiving a Ukrainian passport.

During the investigation, the investigators determined that in December 2017, Yuri Belavusov and Yuri Ionov were driving a BMW car around Kyiv, and while driving along one of the central streets, they drove into a pedestrian zone.

One of the passers-by made a remark to them.

In response, they pushed him into the back seat of the car.

Now, at another meeting, the prosecutor clarified that Yuri Belavusov threatened the victim with an object similar to a gun, ordered him to "lie on the ground face down and drink water from a puddle", and accompanied these actions with "beating and other violent actions".

Yury Belavusov was initially detained on May 28, 2020.

He was in custody until September 8, 2020 - until the moment when the court changed the measure of preliminary detention to an alternative one - the payment of cash bail in the amount of 42,040 hryvnias (at that time, the equivalent of about 1.5 thousand dollars. - RS).

Since August, Yury Belavusov has been serving as a rifleman in one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

His commanders appealed to the court with a petition to take the Belarusian on bail, but the court refused it.
