Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) has discussed various issues over the phone with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

PM Modi and the Russian President reviewed several aspects of bilateral relations including energy cooperation, trade and investment, defense and security cooperation and other key areas.

During this, PM Modi once again reiterated in the context of the Ukraine war that the only way forward is through dialogue and diplomacy.

Along with this, both the leaders also agreed to be in regular contact.  

PM Modi informed the Russian President about India's current presidency in the G-20 and explained its priorities.

Along with this, he also expressed the hope that both the countries will work together during India's presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. 

"After meeting in Samarkand on the sidelines of the SCO summit, the two leaders reviewed several aspects of bilateral ties, including energy cooperation, trade and investment, defense and security cooperation and other areas," an official said.

This phone conversation took place at a time when it has come to the fore that PM Modi will not travel to Russia this year for the annual India-Russia summit.

Russian President Putin had come to India for the summit last year.
