The Minister of Defense of Greece, Nikos Panaiotopoulos, announced his readiness to send the S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine, but only on the condition that the US installs Patriot air defense systems in Crete instead.

He said this during the Christmas meeting at the Ministry of National Defense, Greek publications write.

"If the U.S. deploys the Patriot system on the island, then once it's integrated - connected to the national air defense system - the S-300s can be taken away. The same process applies to any other Russian-made air defense system they may want to send to Ukraine ", he answered when asked about the role of the S-300 in Greece.

He also noted that in case of obtaining American analogues, his country can also send

Tor-M1 and Osa-AKM air defense systems to Ukraine.

It will be recalled that it was previously reported that Russia reacted to the US plans to transfer powerful Patriot anti-missile systems to Ukraine in the near future

and threatened "unforeseen consequences"

.

In addition, we previously informed that the Pentagon

confirmed the transfer of Patriot systems to Ukraine

.
