The GOVERNMENT has provided 8 billion shillings for the implementation of water projects in Mtwara District.

The projects are implemented by the Rural Water and Sanitation Authority (RUWASA), including new projects and those ongoing in the district.

Speaking at the half-yearly meeting of stakeholders in the district for the year 2020/22, the Head of Mtwara District, Dunstan Kyobya, has directed the Authority to increase the efficiency and speed of its work in the implementation of the projects, to increase the speed of procurement in order to Citizens should get that service.

"Ruwasa make sure that the Procurement process is speeding up, we cannot have money for six months and then the work is not done", said Kyobya

The Manager of Ruwasa District of Mtwara, Engineer Hamisi Mashindika has said that water service in the District is currently at 59 percent and until the completion of the projects that are being implemented in the District, it will increase to 20 percent which will serve 76 thousand people.

He said that with the completion of the ongoing projects in this year's budget 2022/23, they will be able to reach 78 percent of the water service in the district.

Nanyamba State Member of Parliament Abdallah Chikota has congratulated the sixth phase Government for establishing the Procurement Board for the Southern Region which previously did not exist which deals with the issue of Procurement for the Mtwara and Lindi Regions which will help implement the projects on time.

"Our goals as stated in our Manifesto of the Revolutionary Party is to reach 85 percent of the availability of water services by 2020/25, my greatest comfort is that when the year 2020/25 arrives we will have completed this implementation", said Chikota
