The European Parliament voted to recognize the famine deliberately caused 90 years ago in Ukraine as genocide, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"The European Parliament recognizes the famine caused by the Soviet regime in Ukraine in the year 1932-1933 - known as the Gladomor - as genocide," said a press release from the institution.

"The MEPs categorically condemn these actions, which led to the death of millions of Ukrainians, and call on all countries and organizations that have not yet, to join them and recognize them as genocide," the message reads.

"While condemning the current Russian regime for its manipulation of historical memory for the purposes of its own survival, the parliament calls on the Russian Federation, as the main successor of the Soviet Union, to apologize for these crimes," the press release stated.
