The Russians are changing their tactics under the leadership of their new commander, Sergei Surovikin.

They attack using smaller, well-coordinated units of infantry.

This is especially noticeable near Bakhmut.

This was stated by the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi in an interview with The Economist.

According to him, such tactics require many lives of Russian soldiers, but people's lives "have never been Russia's highest priority."

New tactics of the invaders near Bakhmut:

  • On the first line are fighting "Wagnerian" mercenaries, who, according to Sirsky, are much better equipped than the regular Russian army.

  • "Kadyrivtsi" and other regular troops are already in the rear.

Syrsky notes that earlier these forces fought separately, but today they interact in units of 900 or more soldiers, moving mostly on foot.

According to the general, the purpose of the relentless offensive of the Russian Federation on Bakhmut is to distract the Ukrainian units so that they cannot be used to strengthen the offensive in the Luhansk region in the north.

"Now the enemy is trying to seize the initiative from us. He is trying to force us to fully defend ourselves. The Russians are not idiots. They are not weak. Anyone who underestimates them will be defeated," Sirsky emphasized.

We will remind that the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny spoke about his attitude towards the commander of the occupying army in Ukraine, Serhii Surovykin, and called the leader of the invaders a "deadly horde".

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation appointed General Serhiy Surovikin "commander of the united group of troops in Ukraine" on October 8.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, noted that the occupying army under Surovikin became more disciplined.

The situation near Bakhmut

It will be recalled that near Bakhmut, fierce battles have been going on every day for several months.

Earlier, military expert Oleg Zhdanov explained that Russian propaganda plans to show the occupation of Ukrainian Bakhmut as if it was the "capture" of Berlin during the Second World War.

Zhdanov also told whether the ZSU would hold Bakhmut, and named the ratio of artillery in the Bakhmut direction.
