In Lithuania, it was forbidden to own weapons for Russians and Belarusians living in the country.

The Lithuanian Parliament adopted the corresponding law on December 15.

106 deputies of the Seimas voted for it, none spoke against it, 10 deputies abstained.

This is stated in a message on the website of the Seimas.

At the initiative of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense (NCD), an addition was made to the project prohibiting the purchase and storage of weapons, weapons accessories, ammunition and their parts for citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

At the same time, private arms dealers in Lithuania received the right to sell weapons permitted in civilian circulation.

"Shooters, volunteer soldiers, professional military servicemen will finally be able to purchase category A weapons in Lithuania. Half a year ago, we allowed them to be owned, now we are making it possible to purchase them here in Lithuania," explained the head of the CSTO, Laurinas Kaschyunas.

The importance of this provision was emphasized by the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, Paulus Saudargas, who suggested taking into account the experience of forming territorial defense in Ukraine.

In his opinion, it is more correct to provide an opportunity for all those who are ready to defend the country in the event of external aggression to purchase weapons in advance.

In this case, people will have enough time to "get used to the weapon, train with it at the shooting range, install optics, a thermal imaging device ... so that, God forbid, if necessary, they can go to defend the country."

It should be noted that Latvia and

Estonia

banned the possession of weapons by Russians and Belarusians living in these countries in October.

the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry called on Ukraine to provide modern weapons

, which will allow the Armed Forces to advance further.
