The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky

Volodymyr Zelensky is a Ukrainian artist, screenwriter, producer and politician. Volodymyr (sometimes again) called for the creation as soon as possible of a special tribunal to try Russia's crimes committed in Ukraine. He made this call on the occasion of the awarding of the European parliament for freedom of thought "Sakharov", reported France Press, quoted by BTA.

"We cannot wait for the end of the war to bring to justice those who provoked this war. We must also prevent the repetition of such aggression," said Zelensky, speaking via video conference outside the European Parliament, where today held the award ceremony.

Earlier in the year, the EP awarded the award to the Ukrainian people.

Zelensky's words came shortly after Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said no truce was being discussed over Christmas or New Year, AFP reports.

Before the EP, Zelensky insisted that the creation of an international tribunal be specified as quickly as possible.

"This tribunal must be established and must start operating very soon," Zelensky emphasized and was applauded by the MEPs, who observed a minute's silence in memory of the Ukrainian victims of the conflict.

At the end of November, the European Commission proposed to work on the creation of such a special tribunal.

Zelensky insisted on it several times, but so did the Baltic countries.

And today, the ceremony in the EP was attended by Ivan Fyodorov, the mayor of the southern Ukrainian city of Melitopol, which was occupied by the Russians, Yulia Payevska, founder of the medical unit for the evacuation of people injured by the war "Angels of Tyra" and Oleksandra Matvichuk, head of the Center for civil liberties, who is one of the laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought rewards every year the efforts of people and organizations protecting people's rights and civil liberties.

The prize also includes a sum of 50,000 euros.

On several occasions, those who won it later received the Nobel Peace Prize.

This is the case with the Congolese gynecologist Denis Mukwege, the Yazidi Nadia Murad, the Pakistani Malala Yousafzai or Nelson Mandela, who was also the first laureate of the Sakharov Prize.
