The Serbian police arrested nine people on suspicion of having organized the illegal crossing of the Serbian-Bulgarian border and the transportation of 90 illegal migrants, BTA reports.

Members of the organized crime group received between 300 and 1,000 euros per migrant.

They organized the illegal crossing of the border, as well as the transportation of the illegal migrants to a reception center in Preševo ​​and then to Belgrade, Subotica and Sombor with the intention of their further transfer to European Union countries.

It is suspected that the traffickers carried out the illegal activity from August to October.

One man is still being sought, the Serbian Interior Ministry said.

The arrests were made in the territory of Vrane, Preševo ​​and Surdulica, southern Serbia.
