same-sex
and interracial couples.

.
"Today, with the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act, we celebrate our progress. Few things are as clear and right as marriage equality," Biden said.
Biden also emphasized that signing the law brings the United States closer to equality, freedom and justice.
"For most of our country's history, we have denied these protections to interracial couples and same-sex couples. We have failed to treat them with equal dignity and respect. And now this law requires that interracial marriage and same-sex marriage be recognized as legal in every state in the country." , - said the US president.
Once signed, the old Defense of Marriage Act, which provided for marriage only between a woman and a man, loses its validity.
The new law mandates the recognition of the validity of marriages performed outside the state, including same-sex and interracial marriages.
