[Reporter Ding Yi/Report from Taipei] The National Communications and Communications Commission (NCC) commissioned the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology to test 34 domestic 4G/5G mobile broadband base stations, and found that the electromagnetic wave intensity is far lower than the standard set by the Environmental Protection Agency, which is comparable to that of European and American countries. The test results are close.

NCC stated that the public’s doubts about the safety of the base station’s electromagnetic waves will lead to difficulties in the construction of the base station. This study verified the electromagnetic wave strength in a scientific way and found that the electromagnetic wave of the base station is more than 10,000 times lower than that of an electric razor.

NCC member Wang Zhengjia said that there are currently more than 35,000 5G base stations in the country, covering 94% of the population, and will continue to be built in the future, but many people still have security concerns about the base stations, resulting in protests, demolition, etc. circumstances affecting the right of citizens to communicate.

Therefore, NCC has not only increased publicity in recent years, but also adopted scientific research methods this time to reduce public doubts.

NCC entrusts the team of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology to sample base stations in all parts of Taiwan and outer islands. This is the first time that NCC entrusts a third-party organization to measure the electromagnetic waves of base stations. It hopes to convince the public to believe in scientific evidence. During the sampling process, three or more companies were specially selected. The base stations co-constructed by the industry, because these base stations have more radio frequency equipment and antennas, are more representative for dispelling public doubts.

Guo Wenzhong, a professor at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology who carried out the research, pointed out that people often have misunderstandings about base stations, and base stations have a "lighthouse effect."

He explained that the direction of electromagnetic wave emission is far away, just like a lighthouse, the light at the bottom of the lighthouse is the least, so the intensity of electromagnetic waves located directly below the base station and closer to the base station is lower.

And if it is far away from the base station, the mobile phone needs to use stronger power. Therefore, those who are farther away from the base station will have a higher risk of electromagnetic wave exposure when using the mobile phone.

Guo Wenzhong pointed out that the maximum value measured by the research is only 0.039% of the standard of the Environmental Protection Agency and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), which is about 39 parts per 100,000. He said that based on this data, the base station is very Be safe, please rest assured.

The study also collected 40 domestic and foreign documents on electromagnetic wave safety, and the analysis showed that the harm of electromagnetic waves to the human body is minimal.

Moreover, if objective measurement data can be provided to the public, it can build public confidence, and education can effectively enhance the knowledge of the public.
