As soon as we are not allowed in Schengen, the governments of Bulgaria and Romania should abolish border control between them.

This is stated in a position of the Chamber of Motor Carriers in Bulgaria (KAPB), distributed to the media.

"The Chamber of Road Transporters in Bulgaria supports the position of the National Union of Road Transporters in Romania (UNTRR) - as soon as the two countries were blocked on their way to Schengen, their governments should start active work to remove border controls between them", wrote the professional organization.

"In both countries, the transport sector is at the forefront of their economies.

The transport industry, both in Bulgaria and in Romania, suffered significantly due to the protectionist measures that the EU introduced under the name "Mobility I" Package.

The goal is clear – reducing the competitiveness not only of the carriers from the two countries, but also of their economies as a whole," the position also states.

According to the carriers, not allowing us to enter Schengen is a blow to business, to all people traveling and to HGV drivers who are forced to wait for hours and days at the border.

"Bulgaria and Romania together took the path of European unity, but the violation of the basic principles of the EU, even by countries with well-established democratic principles, is unacceptable.

This is precisely why Bulgaria and Romania should continue their journey towards Schengen together, and the most logical step is precisely this - the abolition of border control", according to KAPB.

KAPB calls on the Bulgarian authorities to take measures and steps together with the Romanian side to remove the border control with Romania.

On December 8, the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council rejected the proposal for Bulgaria and Romania to join Schengen.
