The former chairman of the Sofia District Court, Alexander Angelov, was elected by the judicial collegium of the High Judicial Council for a second term.

Ten of the members of the collegium voted for him, two were against, BTA reported.

Angelov received support during the debate from the presidents of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SC) Galina Zakharova and the Supreme Administrative Court Georgi Cholakov, as well as from another member of the judicial collegium - Daniela Marcheva.

Atanaska Disheva stated that she would not vote for Angelov and highlighted a number of problems in court.

Olga Kerelska also spoke against it.

Angelov points out in his concept that he succeeded in his first mandate to reverse the trend and that there are more resolved cases in the district court than new ones.

According to him, the main problem facing the court, which remains today, is the lack of sufficient civil servants.

A great success, according to Angelov, is that from May 1 last year, scanning of all incoming papers began.

To improve the work of summoners, electronic monitoring has also been introduced.

Each of them already has a positioning device.

In this way, it is practically possible to check whether each address has really been visited.

The reason is the frequent complaints from participants in the processes who claim that they have not been visited.

In his concept, Angelov also states that two motivated signals were sent to the Supreme Court.

They are associated with conflicting case law.

One of them is regarding domestic violence cases.

Five magistrates are running for Eurojust

In order to improve the work of the court, Angelov proposes to reduce the number of cases in the district court by changing the jurisdiction of some of them.

According to him, it is good to increase the number of judges.

Angelov hints that work should be done in the direction of overcoming the problem with the uneven workload of the judges.

The debate on Angelov's election lasted several hours.
