Kolkata:

Lalan Sheikh, the main accused in the Bogtui village arson and violence in West Bengal's Birbhum district, was found 'hanging' on Monday at a temporary office set up by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Rampurhat.

Sources told NDTV that the CBI has informed the local police that the accused committed suicide while in their custody.

It is worth mentioning that after his arrest, after being handed over to the investigating agency by the Calcutta High Court, Lalan Sheikh was kept in a temporary camp set up by the CBI.

At least 10 people were killed in this incident that took place in March.

The accused was arrested earlier this month from a place on the West Bengal-Jharkhand border.

The CBI source said that the body of the accused was found in the toilet of the office.

The agency has set up a temporary office in a guest house in Rampurhat.

At least 10 people were killed in arson and violence following the murder of local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bhadu Sheikh on March 21.

The CBI is probing the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
