MEP from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and Vice-President of the European Parliament Eva Kaili has been detained on suspicion of corruption.

The offices of assistants of two MEPs were also sealed. 

According to the Belgian publications "Le Soir" and "Knack", it is an investigation, which began in mid-July, of a criminal group that infiltrated the European Parliament.

She is suspected of interference in EU politics, as well as of corruption on the part of Qatar, BNR reports. 

17 homes were searched, 5 suspects were interrogated, including the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation Luca Visentini, the former MEP from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Pierre-Antonio Panzeri, as well as his former assistant, now an associate of the Alliance and husband of Eva Kylie.

Kylie herself is a 44-year-old former presenter on Greek television.

The office of one of the assistants of the Belgian MEP from the same party, Maria Arena, was sealed, as well as the assistants of her colleague Mark Tarabella. 

Following reports of Eva Kaili's arrest, PASOK Socialists of Greece chairman Nikos Androulakis tweeted that she had been expelled from the party.
