BJP registered a historic victory in Gujarat.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel along with his entire cabinet resigned on Friday to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a historic victory in the state assembly elections.

He will be nominated for the post once again in the meeting of BJP MLAs ahead of his swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

The BJP registered a historic victory in Gujarat by securing a record 156 seats in the 182-member assembly.

Accompanied by Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil and party's special leader Pankaj Desai, Patel submitted his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.

It was just a formality as the party had already announced that Patel would be the next chief minister of the state before the elections.

On Thursday, the state BJP chief had reiterated that Kiptel would continue at the top post in the state and his swearing-in ceremony would take place on Monday.

"The governor has accepted the resignation of the chief minister and his cabinet. Patel will continue to be the caretaker chief minister till the new government is formed," Desai told reporters outside the Raj Bhavan.

In a letter, Patil informed the governor that the BJP, which won 156 of the 182 seats,

A meeting of the Legislature Party of all the newly-elected MLAs has been called on Saturday morning to elect a new leader.

Desai said, "The meeting of the legislators will be held on Saturday at 10 am at Kamalam, the party headquarters in Gandhinagar. The governor will be informed about the election of the new leader in the afternoon, for which we have sought time from him. The swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister and His cabinet will be as per the instructions of the governor," Patil had announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government would be held at the helipad ground in Gandhinagar on Monday.
