Shortly before the start of the winter sports season, a group of Ukrainian refugees had to leave a vacation home of the Czech parliament, a decision that caused criticism in society, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

About 25 people have been accommodated since the spring in a resort complex belonging to the Chamber of Deputies in the town of Harrahov in the region of the Karkonosze Mountains.

However, now they have to move because several Czech MPs want to spend their winter vacation in the complex.

A spokesman for the regional administration in Liberec province announced yesterday that the refugees have been provided with alternative housing and they will be able to stay where they work and their children go to school.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petar Fiala, joined the opposition's criticism of the leadership of the parliament.

In his words, "Ukrainians should stay where they are" and "this should not happen".

Marketa Pekarova Adamova, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, dismissed the criticism as a "storm in a glass of water".

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 467,000 Ukrainians have been under temporary protection in the Czech Republic of 10.5 million, according to data from the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
